Overview
Roles and Responsibilities – Indirect Taxation (US Property Tax Focus)
Tax Compliance & Reporting:
– Ensure timely and accurate filing of US indirect tax returns, including sales & use tax, property tax, business license tax, and other relevant state and local taxes.
– Maintain tax calendars and ensure all compliance deadlines are met across multiple jurisdictions.
– Prepare monthly/quarterly property tax returns, including personal property and real property filings, and support payment processing.
Property Tax Management:
– Manage the end-to-end property tax lifecycle – from asset categorization and declaration to tax bill reconciliation and appeal coordination.
– Liaise with US-based consultants, local jurisdictions, and assessors to resolve discrepancies, respond to audits, and support assessment reviews.
– Maintain accurate records of fixed assets for property tax purposes and coordinate with the Fixed Assets and Accounting teams to ensure alignment.
Audit Support & Risk Mitigation:
– Assist in state and local tax audits by preparing documentation, responding to queries, and engaging with tax authorities as needed.
– Monitor changes in indirect tax regulations (especially property tax laws) in the US and assess the impact on operations and compliance processes.
Process Optimization & Automation:
– Partner with internal stakeholders to drive automation of property tax and indirect tax processes using technology tools and ERP systems.
– Continuously review tax processes to identify opportunities for efficiency, accuracy, and cost reduction.
Stakeholder Engagement:
– Collaborate closely with the finance, legal, real estate, and operations teams in the US and India to ensure a consistent tax strategy and compliance framework.
– Act as the key point of contact for all property tax matters within the shared services unit.
