Position Overview:

– The Director Fixed Assets is responsible for overseeing the management of the company & fixed asset portfolio, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and maintaining effective processes for tracking, recording, and depreciating assets.

– This role is key in managing the full life cycle of assets, from acquisition to disposal, and ensuring that all asset transactions align with company policies and accounting principles.

– As a senior leader in the finance team, the Director Fixed Assets will lead the development of asset management strategies, implement best practices, and work cross-functionally with other departments (e.g., Operations, IT, and Procurement) to optimize asset utilization and enhance reporting accuracy.

– The role requires strong technical expertise in fixed asset accounting, excellent project management skills, and the ability to lead a team.

Key Responsibilities:

Asset Management & Accounting:

– Oversee the accurate and timely recording of all fixed asset acquisitions, disposals, and transfers in the asset register.

– Ensure fixed asset data integrity and the proper categorization of assets according to applicable accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS).

– Lead the monthly and year-end fixed asset closing process, ensuring that all asset-related journal entries are properly recorded.

– Manage the depreciation process, ensuring accurate calculation of depreciation using appropriate methods (e.g., straight-line, declining balance).

– Perform impairment testing and recommend adjustments based on asset condition, market value, and usage.

Financial Reporting & Compliance:

– Prepare and review periodic fixed asset reports, including detailed reconciliations between the general ledger and asset register.

– Ensure compliance with internal controls and audit requirements related to fixed assets.

– Prepare fixed asset-related disclosures for financial statements, ensuring compliance with IFRS/GAAP reporting requirements.

– Coordinate with internal and external auditors for fixed asset audits and respond to audit requests related to asset management

Process Improvement & Optimization:

– Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure the efficient management of fixed assets across the company.

– Collaborate with the IT and Procurement teams to improve the integration of asset management systems with other financial systems.

– Lead initiatives to streamline asset tracking and improve the accuracy of the fixed asset register through automation and advanced technology.

Team Leadership & Development:

– Manage and mentor a team of fixed asset accountants, providing guidance and support for their professional growth.

– Assign tasks, set priorities, and monitor the team’s progress to ensure the timely and accurate completion of all fixed asset-related activities.

– Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team by promoting knowledge sharing, collaboration, and innovation.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

– Work closely with the Procurement, Operations, and IT departments to ensure fixed asset transactions are properly recorded and tracked from acquisition to disposal.

– Participate in project teams for new asset acquisitions, system upgrades, or relocations to ensure proper asset management controls are in place.

– Advise senior management on asset management strategies, lifecycle planning, and investment decisions.

Asset Life Cycle Management:

– Oversee the management of asset life cycles, including acquisition, maintenance, depreciation, and disposal.

– Recommend asset replacements or disposals based on asset performance, condition, and usage.

– Ensure that assets are disposed of in a compliant and efficient manner, in line with regulatory requirements.

Required Qualification, Experience, Skills & Competencies:

– CA Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in fixed asset accounting, with at least 3-5 years in a senior or managerial role.

– Strong understanding of asset management, financial reporting, and depreciation methodologies.

– Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar) and asset management software (e.g., Asset Panda, Infor, or similar).

– Proven track record of managing teams and implementing process improvements.

– Expert knowledge of fixed asset accounting principles (GAAP, IFRS).

– Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

– Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact with senior management and cross-functional teams.
